Tommy’s Sports bar was officially opened on 25th April 2009 with the AFL’s “Shinboner of the century” Glenn Archer in attendance.
Tommy’s sports bar has satellite and cable TV for sports from around the world, plus a large projector screen and 4 large flatscreen TVs with surround sound. We also have a great selection of music and live streaming. The walls and ceiling of our sports bar are covered with sports and military memorabilia from all around the world.
On ANZAC & Long Tan day each year, we hold the traditional 2 up and Crown and Anchor games. ALL money raised from these two events go straight towards the local charities in Vung Tau.
We also support and are a proud sponsor of the “Vietnam Swans” Australian Rules Football team. Every ANZAC Day we have the “ANZAC DAY” friendship match that started in 2009, and played at the same oval that Australian diggers played on in 1967 and is also the current greyhound track, once called the Lord Mayors oval, now called “Lam Son Stadium”.
Last year the “Vietnam Swans” played the “Malaysian Warriors” which was a hoot. Each year the numbers are increasing, last year numbers were in excess of 500 people, followed by the “Kevin McMillan” gala dinner later that same night. Kevin was with 6 RAR in Vietnam in 1969 -1970 and then again with the Australian Army Training Team Vietnam 1970 – 1971. Kevin was a staunch Swannies supporter and sadly passed away on the 1st May 2012). The gala dinner is also a great opportunity to meet the players and quite possibly meet an ex/current AFL player. So if you are planning a trip to Vietnam, and you love your Aussie rules footy don’t miss this awesome occasion. The Swannies web site is www.vietnamswans.com
